Radiomarathon Australia, the fundraising initiative for kids with special needs, announced its most successful year to date, raising over $350,000 in 2007 and a staggering $6 million worldwide!
The Chairman of Radiomarathon Australia, Mr Michalis Athanasiou was very pleased with the result, “It is deeply moving and gratifying to achieve this exceptional result, in particular for the vast number of Laiki Bank staff, volunteers and supporters, who make up the Radiomarathon Community. We thank all who have helped and we repeat our ongoing commitment to helping kids with special needs and to providing as much feedback about Radiomarathon’s activities to our supporters as we can.” Laiki Bank has placed large ads in the Greek media listing dozens of the organisations and companies, which contributed with their support.
In its 11th year, Radiomarathon Australia consists of three key events, the official launch in August at the St George College, Adelaide, followed by the Melbourne Ball and the Sydney Ball in late October. Several notable dignitaries attended the events, including the Hon Theo Theophanous, Minister for Industry and Trade in Victoria and the NSW Attorney General and Minister for Justice, The Hon John Hatzistergos MLC in Sydney. Mr Hatzistergos congratulated Laiki Bank for organising the Radiomarathon events each year with undeterred dedication. He said, “Laiki Bank stands apart from other financial institutions because of its commitment to building and nurturing strong relationships with the community. Radiomarathon makes a huge difference to the lives of many children and their families.”
Mr Athanasiou was quick to point out that Radiomarathon’s ongoing growth is also based on a number of increasingly successful events held by organisations under the banner of Radiomarathon. With the support of Laiki Bank two of these events made a major contribution this year. These were, The George Kranitis Juvenile Arthritis Dinner in Sydney, which was held in April and the St George Kapouti Club’s Thalassaemia Dinner in Melbourne, held in June every year. “We commend the organisers of these events for having the foresight to work with Radiomarathon and ensure that we can grow and achieve even more every year. We all know we can do more when we work together. We welcome other organisations with fundraising events which support children to join in this vision.” Other organisations, which have held events under the banner of Radiomarathon, include OEEGA South Australia, The Cypriot Community of South Australia, the Aradipou Association of South Australia, and Thessaloniki Association of Victoria. The final event will be the New Year’s Eve party in Sydney organised by Mr Bill Kritharas.
Each year more than 30 organisations receive funds from Radiomarathon in Australia, which assists them to continue their efforts in caring for hundreds of kids. Laiki Bank, the organiser of Radiomarathon, covers 100% of the net administrative cost of fundraising, which ensures the maximum proceeds go to helping children in need.
