In a spectacular evening complete with stunning adagio act and exotic belly dancers, over 470 guests witnessed a fundraiser like none other at Le Montage in Sydney, on Friday, 26th of October.
The Radiomarathon Ball in Melbourne is one of 15 fundraising activities organised annually for the benefit of children with special needs. In an effective example of corporate social responsibility, Laiki Bank covers 100% of the net administrative cost of fundraising, ensuring that the maximum proceeds go to the charity.
The guests of the evening came from all walks of like: from entrepreneurs to politicians and from socialites to responsible citizens. Some notable names in the guest list were, the NSW Attorney General and Minister for Justice, The Hon John Hatzistergos MLC, representing the High Commissioner of Cyprus His Excellency Filipos Kritiotis, Mr Dimitri Tsahuridis and representing the Consul General of Greece in NSW Mr Ioannis Raptakis.
Sensational adagio act and exotic belly dancers captivated the guests while unique auction items had them digging deep for a worthy cause. Auction participants competed to win a Red Bull stunt flight and to beat the summer heat with a cool Vespa scooter. Football superstar Ronaldinho signed boot and Tennis superstar Roger Federer signed Tennis ball were some of the other highlights of the auction.
Mr Michalis Athanasiou, the Chairman of the Radiomarathon Trust, congratulated the volunteers and Laiki Bank staff who worked tirelessly over last few months to make the evening a great success. He added, “I am once again honoured to welcome all of you to the Radiomarathon ball. It is your generous commitment each year that makes it possible for us to raise much needed funds to help kids with life threatening diseases. Thanks to the Radiomarathon community, last year we raised $325000 and this year we are well on our way to surpass last year’s total.” He also extended special thanks to the main media partner of the event, Antenna pacific and to the event partner, Thomas Hotels.
The NSW Attorney General and Minister for Justice, The Hon John Hatzistergos congratulated Laiki Bank for organising the Radiomarathon events each year with undeterred dedication. He said, “ Laiki Bank stands apart from other financial institutions because of its commitment to building and nurturing strong relationship with the community. The strength of this relationship is reflected in the support given by the community to Radiomarathon. It is heartening to see community and businesses working together towards helping kids with special needs.”
The fundraiser proved to be a phenomenal success with an incredible total of $130,000 raised on the night itself. $112,000 was raised at the Radiomarathon Melbourne ball on the 13th of October at Grant Hyatt hotel. The Fundraising initiatives will culminate with radio appeal on the 4th of Nov in association with three radio stations; 3XY in Melbourne, 1683FM and 2MM 1665AM.
